Synopsis:
Giulio (Marcello Mastroianni), a middle-aged, disenchanted landscape architect trapped in a stagnant marriage, encounters Francesca (Nastassja Kinski), a beautiful, fiercely uninhibited 17-year-old student in Florence. Drawn to her youthful exuberance, Giulio enters into an intense and passionate romantic affair. However, their relationship is violently upended when a mutual friend suggests a devastating possibility: Francesca might actually be Giulio's biological daughter, the result of a brief affair with her mother decades earlier.
