Successful treatment of a neurosurgical problem depends on achieving success in every stage of a continuous chain of events-preoperative diagnosis, assessment and preparation of patient for surgery, intraoperative anesthesia and surgical procedure and postoperative adjuvant therapy and rehabilitation.
The surgical technique of the actual procedure depends entirely on the neurosurgeon while all the other aspects can be managed solely or partly by the members of the surgical team and collaborating specialists.
Every surgical procedure consists of a series of steps in surgical anatomy or pathological anatomy. Correct reproduction of each step is essential for proceeding to the next step. This book illustrates this principle beautifully.
A special feature is the practical pearls given by the authors for each surgical procedure at the end of the chapter.
May I conclude by emphasizing that this operative neurosurgery atlas should be a ready resource not only in the theatre but in every departmental library and personal bookshelf of neurosurgeons.
I strongly recommend that this book should always be available in every neurosurgical operation theatre.
